The MacBook Pro charger is also new and new materials have been used for it. That is why from ChargerLAB show us the inside of the USB-C and they tell us if it is able to function properly.
YouTube channel ChargerLAB has published a video where we are taught the process of opening and disassembling the Apple 140W USB-C charger. Like the computer itself, it is full of technology and innovation. It uses USB-C PD 3.1 standard which can deliver up to 240W of power. Now, keep in mind that to achieve the maximum 140W of power while charging the MacBook, the new USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable is required.
When launching the new laptops, Apple has wanted to innovate in all aspects. We have new designs and especially new interior powers thanks to the new M1 chip. Everything in the computer should be in line and the charger should not be less. It is the first time that the company uses Gallium Nitride (GaN) in the construction of it. It is a very hard broadband semiconductor material, which can operate at temperatures and work at much higher voltages. Something essential for those 140W.
In the video we are taught, how difficult it is to access the interior of it and they use a mini saw to cut it open. That way, the charger is rendered useless forever. But it is worth it just to see a little more of the interior of it. Once inside, it looks quite sturdy. The plastic casing is very thick and there is a black glue to hold the main module in place. As noted in the video, there are also graphite thermal pads and adhesives on top of the chips for heat dissipation and protection.
Very advanced for what it looks like so far, but pray that it doesn't spoil you because it gives me that you should buy another at a price, we know, Apple.
