This is what you should do when updating your Mac to OS X 10.11.1

osx-el-captain

It seems that the landing of the new version of OS X El Capitan, specifically the version OS X 10.11.1, It has not been entirely acceptable and there are already several threads, this is one y this is another on Apple forums, where hundreds of users are complaining that their computers they have hung during the installation of this update.

To explain a little better what the problem consists of, we can tell you that during the installation of the update the computer shows the progress bar that when it reaches 75% it stays completely frozen and the computer shows no signs of life. In this situation some users forcefully shut down the computer using the power button.

Well yes, from what we have been able to verify when installing this update we must bear in mind that it does not behave like previous updates in which the installation process is relatively fast and the progress bar does not behave abnormally or strangely.

In this case, after starting the system update, it informs us that the total time to be invested is about 30 minutes. So far everything is correct. The first 15 minutes go by faster than a clock actually says and at that point, when the computer should restart quickly to continue with the second part of the installation is where the equipment enters a frozen state that makes the hair of the users stand on end.

For almost seven minutes on a 21,5-inch iMac with HDD and about three minutes on an 11-inch MacBook Air with SSD, the computer shows no signs of life, it is totally blocked or so it seems because after that time the system relapses again and completes the installation.

That is why what we advise you is not to be in a hurry when installing and let the equipment do what it has to do. It seems that in this update the visual details of the installation interface they are not correctly synchronized with what the equipment is actually doing.

That didn't happen to me, on the contrary, I was surprised! I have a 2010 Macbook Air, which is not compatible with Continuity, in theory, because after updating I am allowed to send and receive text messages, as well as make and receive calls on my Macboo Air, does anyone know if Apple extended support of those features!?

You've always been able to do that since ... Mavericks? Although it is from 2010, you just have to configure it well, now in iOS 9 you have a dedicated option for it.

About the update, I have updated without problems.

No problem except the delay; There is also a final message in the form of a notification if I want the system to update automatically. Which over time will be seen if you do it in the background or install the updates as happens in Windows, when turning off the computer.

I confirm that I have not been able to update it after two attempts. More than 12 hours waiting and nothing at all. In the end I had to recover a copy of timemachine.

What I can advise in these cases is the usual. Backup and restore from scratch: https://www.soydemac.com/como-instalar-de-cero-os-x-el-capitan/ it may be the best option for those who have trouble updating without restore.
