This SwiftUI project shows us what the Health app will look like on your Mac

"Salud"

We have had the native Apple application on our iPhones for six years now "Salud". The years go by, and each time the company is expanding the functions of this application, especially thanks to the evolution of the Apple Watch. We can even consult in PDF our ECGs that we can get with our Apple Watch, but curiously, all this data health that our clock is collecting we cannot consult them on our Mac.

I don't understand why there is no health app for macOS. But we all know that with the arrival of Big Sur macOS, apps written for iOS, including the health app, will soon be able to be integrated into our Macs. Let's see what it would look like on a Mac screen with this SwiftUI project.

With iOS 8, Apple introduced the native Health app on the iPhone. But this app has never spread to other devices in all those years. Although there are no rumors that it will be introduced on iPadOS or macOS, the developer and designer Jordan singer has created a new concept that envisions a Mac version of Health.

The Health app on macOS would provide easy access to user health information, in keeping with Singer's concept. It has the same style of windows as the iOS app, but the health categories are displayed in the app's sidebar instead of a dedicated menu like on the iPhone. Here there is no problem of space onscreen.

The application interface is designed to be more familiar to Mac users, with the translucent sidebar and smaller mouse pointer-ready elements. But the most impressive thing is that the concept is not just an image, but a real experience built with SwiftUI.

SwiftUI project

It is not very logical that the Health app is only available on iOS.

For those who are not familiar with SwiftUI, this tool allows developers to create the interface of an application in an intuitive and universal way so it's ready to run on iOS, macOS, tvOS, and even watchOS.

While there is not much to talk about the Health application, as it would be the same as on the iPhone, we can discuss why it is not yet available on the iPad and even on the Mac. Understandably, the Health application was released only for iPhone in 2014Since the smartphone is the main device for most people, today this data should be available on other user devices, such as the iPad and on the Mac.

With Apple bringing more iOS apps to macOS each year through technology Catalyst, and the new compatibility of iOS apps that macOS Big Sur will bring, I hope that the Health application will be one of the next to be able to run on a Mac.
