This Friday we published an entry in which we told you how CBS was going to premiere a program where the presenter Charlie Rose will speak with Jonathan Ive inside the Apple laboratory and with Angela Ahrendts in an Apple Store. Now the magazine "60 Minutes" have shared a one-minute clip of their upcoming interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook.

In this small preview, the aforementioned presenter Charlie Rose asks Tim Cook for his opinion on the matter that his company uses a "sophisticated system" to Evade taxes on its 74 billion dollars that it has abroad.

To which Tim Cook replied:

That statement is total political bullshit […] There is nothing true in that. Apple pays every tax dollar it owes

Keep explaining that they have a large volume of business abroad, so a large amount of its income is abroad and although the company would like to recover that money and bring it to the US, it would cost 40% to do so.

Here is a part of the transcript of the interview:

  • Rose: How do you feel when you go to Congress and they say you are a tax evader?
  • Cook: What I told you and what I am going to continue saying to the audience tonight is that we pay more taxes in this country than anyone else.
  • Rose: You will know the amount of money they will make in the company. But it cannot deny that it is also the one with the most money abroad.
  • Cook: We do it, because as I said before, two-thirds of our business is outside.
  • Rose: But why not bring it back home? That is the question.
  • Cook: I would love to bring it back and pay tribute here. But it would cost me 40% to make that return, and I don't think it's reasonable to do so. This is a tax code that was made for the industrial age and not for the digital age. It is a step back and a terrible burden on America. It should have been fixed many years ago.
