How to use Apple Pay from our Mac

The moment that many of us were waiting for has already arrived and it is that Apple Pay landed in Spain rushing the deadline that the firm itself communicated on different occasions. Now let's see how can we use Apple Pay from our Mac to pay for our purchases with this great payment method.

The first thing to keep in mind is that we need an iPhone that supports Apple Pay, a Mac that has macOS Sierra and supports Continuity. But we go through steps to see first of all how we have to register our cards in Apple Pay.

Add cards to Apple Pay

The first thing is to add the cards compatible with Apple Pay in Spain in our iPhone and Apple Watch since These devices are essential to be able to pay with Apple Pay from the Mac. In the case of the iPhone we already commented that they are compatible from the iPhone 6 onwards and on Apple Watch since the first model launched last year, the Series 0.

For add credit or debit cards what we have to do is click on the Wallet app (if the one we have at the bottom of a folder) or access from the Settings – Wallet and Apple Pay. Once inside we can insert our card compatible with the payment system by clicking on "Add credit or debit card" that appears at the top. Then a menu will appear where click on next and the iPhone camera is activated directly with a frame to photograph the card and its data. This step can also be done manually but it is easier through the camera and once finished in the case of Banco Santander (which is the one that I have active) will send us a code by SMS at the moment to enter on the iPhone and voila, we have the card active. We may have to enter the expiration date or the security code manually but it is easy to activate and we will already have our card added to the iPhone.

For the Apple Watch the operation is the same and we have to access through the application for the iPhone, Watch. Once inside, we open the Wallet and Apple Pay option and follow the steps to duplicate the cards that we already have inserted in the iPhone. To finish the process They will also send us a new confirmation SMS to the iPhone with a code that we have to use to activate it. Clever.

Use Apple Pay on Mac

Now we can start making payments through our Mac that in principle if we do not have the new MacBook Pro with Touch ID sensor it is something more tedious -than not complicated- to use. Continuity support is a must-have for using Apple Pay and these are the compatible models:

  • iMac (Late 2012 onwards)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 onwards)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 onwards)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2011 onwards)
  • Mac Mini (Mid 2011 onwards)
  • Mac Pro (2013 or later)

Now seeing that our Mac is compatible with Continuity we have to access a website that is also compatible with the Apple payment system from the Safari browser. Chen we make the payment we simply have to confirm the purchase with the Touch ID of our iPhone that will be active thanks to Continuity and that's it.

Obviously paying with Apple Pay on the new MacBook Pro is easier To make a purchase from the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, we just have to place your finger on the Touch ID sensor and make the payment immediately without needing to use the Apple Watch or the iPhone at any time. This new MacBook Pro is the first to add this fingerprint sensor and hopefully it is not the first of many and the company will incorporate it into the rest of the Mac range to come.

You do not need to see the Apple Pay sticker at a store to pay

Apple Pay does not require anything that we have not had available for a long time in most merchants in Spain. To use Apple Pay it is only necessary that the dataphone is "Contactless" and by bringing the iPhone closer, the payment is made easily. In the case of the Apple Watch, it is necessary to press the button below the crown twice, bring the watch closer to the dataphone and that's it.
