Use your GoPro Hero 8 as a Webcam on Mac

Go Pro Webcam on Mac

During the time that the confinement has lasted, teleworking has been king. Not only work, family reunions, remote birthdays have featured our Mac. More specifically, our Webcam that is included. Surely on more than one occasion, it seemed to us that we were seeing our family members or colleagues pixelated or grainy. It can be fixed if you have a GoPro Hero 8.

Due to the quality of the built-in camera on our Macs, images often don't look good. They have a sharpness failure (a very different thing is the quality of the call, for example if the Internet connection is not adequate) and it makes that family reunion or that work meeting become an ordeal. The second has a pass, but with the family, everything must be perfect.

If you have a GoPro Hero 8 or are thinking of buying one, you should know that it can now be used as a Webcam for our Mac. With this we will gain in image quality, stability, definition and above all, something important, as it is more angular, already it will not be necessary, having to pass the computer to each member of the family so that it appears on the screen. Many of those who have been confined, have started in the world of YouTube, as it is one of the best options to start and that it also allows you to broadcast live.

We can use GoPro Hero 8 to Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Team and any of the video conferencing applications. Also, we can use it as a webcam for Skype, Facebook Rooms and Slack through the Chrome browser.

Choice GoPro as Wevcam

What we have to dor for the invention to work, is the following:

  1. Download the Beta firmware GoPro webcam and update your Hero 8 Black.
  2. Download and install the app GoPro Webcam Desktop Utility.
  3. Use a USB-C cable to connect Hero 8 Black to the Mac.
  4.  We turn on the Go Pro and we should see the brand icon along with a blue dot.
  5. We open any video conferencing application and we chose the GoPro as a camera source.

Enjoy it. You will tell us if you use it as it goes.
