Vulnerability found in TorBrowser for macOS leaks IP address

TorBrowser

A new security flaw appears in the macOS world. TorBrowser is a Firefox-based browser, known for being one of the safest on the net, which hides your IP address and leaves no trace of the websites you pass through. However, this browser does not fulfill its function currently, since they have found a vulnerability in macOS and Linux operating systems that, by default, reveal your identity to everyone who wants to know it.

This critical vulnerability has been found after security tests of Tor itself, and would expose the privacy of the user who uses said browser, and although technical details have not yet been revealed, the developers are already working to solve this error.

Filippo Cavallarin, a security researcher who discovered this vulnerability, has revealed that the vulnerability comes from the browser core, that is, the Firefox core on which it is based. This vulnerability, baptized as TorMoil, affects browsers running on macOS and Linux, not on Windows systems. At the moment, the Tor developers have temporarily released a new version called Tor Browser 7.0.9, so that affected users can avoid this security breach.

With this major security flaw, both the security community and the Apple community are very aware of possible vulnerabilities that arise following this bug found. Although the patch with the solution to the problem has already been released (Tor Browser 7.0.9), the causes of vulnerability are investigated. We will be attentive to new information.
