Apple does not stop innovating. At least that shows with each of the patents it registers. This time it's the turn of the Apple Pencil, which could bring with it haptic sensors. In this way, it could respond in one way or another as the user grabs it. The answers we could get would be very similar to those offered by the Apple Watch.
Being a patent we cannot venture to say that it will become a reality, but it is certainly a very good idea. The current Apple Pencil already has sensors that respond to a double tap, being able to be configured to our whim within limits. So the idea is not far-fetched.
An Apple Pencil with haptic sensors that responds as the user uses it
In both the Apple Watch and the iPhone, haptic sensors are already a reality. So the user can know what is happening on the screen without even seeing it, just knowing that it vibrates at the right time. That is what Apple intends with the patent presented on this occasion.
In the patent detailed as a system it could be used to do two jobs: provide haptic feedback to the user, while also being able to read force measurements from the user's grip. With this, two purposes are achieved:
- As we take it the pencil could respond one way or another.
- The Apple Pencil would detect the type of pressure we do him and adjust his functions.
Apple's proposal involves the use of a piezoelectric device connected to the place of grip by the user. That part would warp, both inward and outward, allowing it to be used to provide information to the user, as well as to take grip data.
At the same time, the haptic devices will be able to read the amount of force that is exerted on it by the user's hand. This can help indicate to the system how the user is actually grasping the pencil, giving you a better idea of determining which areas to warp to pass the haptic message without disturbing a drawing movement.
Only time can tell us if it comes true or not.
