We tested the Apple battery charger

Apple batteries 2

Santa Claus has been good and listened to my wishes for some new rechargeable batteries for my wireless Bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse.

Although I recently got hold of some magnificent Sanyo Eneloop that I can only speak highly of, the charger I had was quite poor and my version of the Bluetooth keyboard is the one that uses 3 batteries instead of 2 so the 4 Sanyo Eneloop they were insufficient and my old Energizers no longer gave more of themselves.

Knowing that the batteries that Apple uses are, quite possibly, the Sanyo Eneloop, renowned by themselves and seeing that the charger that is included with these batteries is one of the most efficient on the market, I decided to order this pack from our friend Santa Claus.

Well, here are the batteries and their corresponding charger and the truth is that I'm happy. They are still batteries, yes, but the charger has the typical Apple design: very compact, rounded lines, shiny white plastic, very compact dimensions and a battery insertion system reminiscent of the Magic Mouse.

At the top of the charger we can see a status LED that will indicate when the batteries are charging (orange color) and when this task has been completed (green color). I have not yet been able to check how long it takes to make a full charge but it clearly indicates that it will be much less than my old clone charger.

I would like to highlight the reduced size of the charger to which we can even change the part of the plug as it happens in MacBook chargers. This way we reduce its dimensions even more or we can change its plug in case we travel to another country.

The batteries, as we have already mentioned, are most likely the Sanyo Eneloop renamed by Apple. A total of 6 batteries are included in the package (2 inserted in the charger and 4 sealed inside).

Aesthetically they are quite bland and only stand out for their chrome finish but hey, we are talking about simple batteries so the design of these should not matter to us very little if they fulfill their function well. I just wanted to mention this section because the first time I saw the Sanyo Eneloop they seemed pretty pretty to be just batteries.

Note that the Apple charger recharges any battery that is NI-MH and only accepts AA batteries for the simple reason that no device from Cupertino uses a battery model other than that.

Finally, we go to the price. 29 euros may seem "expensive" if we affirm that we are facing 6 Sanyo Eneloop batteries and a quality charger since this same pack could be between 3 and 5 euros cheaper but if you paid attention to the Amazon discount of the 10 euros, you will have been able to get this Apple charger for the figure of about 16 euros.

Currently you can buy it for 25 euros and with free shipping if you activate the Amazon Premium mode (free at first, you have to make sure to deactivate the automatic renewal in your account settings). A much more attractive price.

The question that nobody ever answers is: What capacity do these batteries have?

If they are supposed to be the Sanyo Eneloop, 1900mAh.

I have the Apple battery charger. It's a complete mess, I connect the batteries, they charge for 10 minutes and then start to flash with their orange light. Until it starts to charge I have to continually remove and put the batteries back. Come on, shit.

I'll go to a hardware store and buy a good charger properly, and the Apple in the trash.
