What is stored in the 'Others' section of our Mac?

HDD

This is one of those questions we ask ourselves when we first purchase a Mac or an iOS device, since if we access our disk space, this 'Others' space appears to us that we have no idea what it does there and at the same time raises the question: What is stored in this 'Others'?

The answer is much simpler than it may seem at first, but since there are several users who ask us this several times a day, we will explain that 'Others' is saved. First of all, for those who have just bought their new Mac we are going to detail where you can see the space it occupies this section on the hard drive and the rest of the storage details.

To access the hard drive and see in detail the capacity and space that we have available, we are only going to click on the apple logo that we have in the upper left part of the menu bar and then on About this Mac ... Once pressed, a window will appear with the tab Storage, click and we will be seeing something similar to the one in the image below:

Now we are clear that 'Others' occupies a space of 167,48 GB in this case and we are going to see with which files this space is occupied according to what Apple itself explains. These are file types that Spotlight does not recognize, items in OS X folders such as the system folder and caches, personal information such as documents, contacts and data from calendars, app modules or extensions, files and PDF documents, spreadsheets, fonts or fonts that we have installed on the Mac, saved games of our games and other data that are not included in the photos, videos, audio, backups or applications sections.

Well, this is what is stored in the 'Others' section on our Mac and here we repeat how important it is perform a cleaning of our Mac from time to time for delete files or stored data that we no longer use, and thus gain space on our hard drive and avoid possible performance problems on our machine.
