You can now play Flappy Bird in the macOS notification window

Flappy Bird

A developer has managed to 'embed' the game of Flappy Bird in the macOS notification window. This is certainly important news for Mac users.

And not because of the game, which is still a simple hobby that you can open in a new window like any other application, but because of the fact that Apple has incorporated it into Big Sur macOS the ability to edit the content of the notification window, as has just been demonstrated. A new feature that programmers should definitely exploit.

The well-known Flappy Bird game, removed from the App Store in 2014, may be returning to the Apple environment in the form of an interactive macOS notification. Using the new framework UserNotificationsUI Added in macOS Big Sur, designer and developer Neil Sardesai has been able to embed a clone of the game created by PlayCanvas creator Will Eastcott in the notification window of Macs.

Use the notification pop-up window

Posted in your account Twitter, Sardesai has used interactive elements within the pop-up window of the notifications to recreate the game, fully playable with the Mac mouse.

For those unfamiliar with Flappy Bird, the game involves guiding a bird through as many pipes as possible without hitting them. The bird, called colors, it moves up with every tap, and users must make sure that Farby doesn't hit any obstacles in the way, or else the game is over.

The application became immensely popular in 2014, even going so far as to bill U.S. dollar 50.000 per day thanks to the ads inserted in the application. Despite its removal from the App Store, a number of games to this day are still being published and played with inspiration from Flappy Bird.

This means that developers can exploit this new possibility offered by macOS Big Sur, and tailor their applications with specific prompts and other functions using the operating system pop-up window. Hopefully Apple controls the use of such a popup, and it is not used to advertising purposes.
