A bug in macOS 10.15.5 prevents creating bootable backups

macos catalina

Earlier this week Apple released the final version of macOS Catalina 10.15.5. This new version includes new functionalities, the most important being the function of battery management. However also an error was found which prevents the creation of bootable backups. An important problem that must be solved as soon as possible.

In all the Betas versions that Apple has released on the new version of macOS Catalina 10.15.5, it seems that the error in the boot backup it was already present. It was expected to be fixed when the final version was released, but it has not been and the error persists.

Mike Bombich of Carbon Copy Cleaner (a program that manages backups), detected the error in the boot backup on the AFPS volume of the new software update. The problem it only affects from this version 10.15.5, so previous backups are not affected. That is, those made under version 10.15.4 and earlier are exempt from this error.

The past 18 of May, Mike sent reports to Apple warning of the error. It was hoped that the company would correct it and at the time of launching the final version, it would not appear. However, we don't know why, but the error is there.

One of the guesses as to why the backup error still exists is that the possibility that be a security solution against third party programs. Although the idea that Apple has ignored the warnings cannot be ruled out.

We will have to wait for AppleLet's see if any statement is sent in this regard and if it gives an explanation stating that it is a problem or not. He may directly correct it and as if nothing had happened here.
