Maintain your printer on Mac with CUPS

If you are one of those who for your work or simply as a hobby you use the printer a lot you have to be constantly using it Perhaps more than once you have found yourself in the situation that when printing any image or text document, it appears blurry or with blurred intermediate lines that spoil the whole so if you have recently changed the ink cartridges it is more than The heads may need to be cleaned.

Most of the latest models of printers from the most recognized brands, they usually bring proprietary drivers or set of drivers from Apple that integrate an option to carry out this task, however in some old models we can only access basic functions so we will show how to enter more advanced options like today.

Although we do not have, as I have said, an interface or option for managing the printer, we can do so through another type of interface and more specifically, a web-type interface. The Apple printing system is born from the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) for the unified printer management on Unix systems And that's where part of the project has to do with a Web configuration interface that offers more detailed options.

The CUPS interface is by default disabled but we can activate it very easily, simply by opening the terminal and entering this command:

cupsctl WebInterface = yes

Now we just have to open a new window in Safari or our favorite browser and go to this address  where we can manage our printers and with a maintenance section where we will find head cleaning in most cases (in some printers the option is not given) and carry it out without problem.
