Five Days at Memorial welcomes new star Cornelius Smith Jr

The Apple TV + Five Days at Memorial series welcomes its new star, Cornelius Smith Jr. This will be the new series that will be produced on Apple TV + and will focus on the consequences of Hurricane Katrina. A Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic that caused more than 1.800 deaths and $ 125.000 billion in damage in August 2005, particularly in and around the city of New Orleans.

According to Deadline, Cornelius Smith Jr. will join Vera Farmiga and adepero oduye in the series directed by John Ridley and Carlton Cuse.

Written by Ridley and Cuse it narrates the first five days in a New Orleans hospital after Hurricane Katrina hit the ground. When the floodwaters rose, the power failed and the heat rose, exhausted caregivers were forced to make life-and-death decisions that haunted them for years. Smith will play Dr. Bryant King, an internist and one of the few doctors of color at the hospital, who is deep in the middle of the crisis. Farmiga plays the protagonist, Dr. Anna Pou, the doctor on duty at Memorial when the storm hit. Oduye plays Karen Wynn, the nurse manager of the hospital's intensive care unit and head of its ethics committee.

The series is based on a 2013 non-fiction book by American journalist Sheri Fink. The book details the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina at Memorial Medical Center. It is thus an expansion of a Pulitzer Prize-winning article written by Fink and published in The New York Times. Shops in 2009. At the moment it is unknown when Five Days at Memorial will premiere on Apple's streaming service. But it is already taking shape and we will surely find out when the series begins to shoot and we will be here to inform you about the advances in this series as we told you when the whole project started.
