Create a Windows 8 Virtual Machine (II): How Parallels 8 Works

iMac Parallels

Once created and configured our virtual machine with Windows 8 we can already use it on our Mac. We are going to explain in this article how Parallels works and the display options it offers us. At the end of the article there is a video that shows you how Parallels works live.

Operation

We already have our virtual machine ready, and we can start using it. We open Parallels and click on our virtual machine. A window will open in which we will have the Windows 8 Metro interface.

This is Window mode, we will have Windows in a window, as if it were a normal application. Inside that window everything works as in Windows, exactly the same.

Parallels offers us two more modes of operation: Full Screen and Coherence. The Full Screen Mode it is the same as any native Mac application that we use in the same way. The virtual machine will become an independent desktop and we can move between Mac and Windows with the typical gestures to change the desktop. To go to this mode, click on the two arrows in the upper right corner.

As we activated in the Preferences, to exit Full Screen mode we just have to go to the upper left corner and the option will appear. We will then go back to window mode.

El Consistency mode integrates Mac and Windows. You will not see the Windows desktop, only the Mac, and you can run the applications from the folder in the Dock with the Windows icon. Applications will open with separate windows, as if they were native to OS X.
