Are you suffering from bad experiences with your Wi-Fi connection in OS X Yosemite becoming very slow on your Mac Pro, iMac or MacBook? software related problems of the system itself. With the arrival of new technologies such as Airdrop that enables the sending of files between OS X Yosemite and iOS 8, a feature called Apple Wireless Direct Link (AWDL) has appeared in turn, which we can mark as "guilty" in this case.
This technology is used for both Airdrop and AirPlay and Direct Play connections. This could cause a conflict between Bonjour and the AWDL itself, so if deep down you are not going to use these functions practically, there is a little trick in the terminal to get the general speed of Wi-Fi connection is a bit faster, getting better file transfer rates.
The first will be open terminal on the Mac in the path Applications> Utilities. Once there, we will enter the following command:
sudo ifconfig awdl0 down
Then the system will ask us to let's enter the administrator password after running the command to verify our credentials as such. Once entered, it will automatically "remove" the AWDL protocol. However, this will also disable Airdrop on the Mac as well as any other technology that relies on this protocol.
If, on the other hand, we need to access Airdrop at a certain time by returning to a slower connection, then we will have to rerun the Terminal and the following command:
sudo ifconfig awdl0 up
After re-checking our password, AWDL and the Airdrop service will be restored to normal operation again. This temporary solution has to be taken for what it is, a simple patch for those users who do not use certain aspects of the system normally and who prioritize the speed of the connection over other characteristics, however this it is by no means a satisfactory solution in all aspects, so it will be expected that Apple will solve this type of failure in future updates.
