How to see which apps use location data in OS X

LOCATION

As you may already know, if you have it configured, every time an application accesses the location data on your iDevice, a symbol that indicates this appears in the upper menu bar.

OS X also has the ability to easily show and manage which applications can and are accessing our data from location. This is a new feature of OS X Mavericks.

The location arrow will now appear in the top bar of the OSX menu, giving us a clue of when and which applications are using the device's location data.

With some applications it may be obvious why they are using or trying to use location data, so if you see the little arrow icon don't be surprised. However, there are other applications in which it is much more strange and curious that it appears.

LOCATION MAPS

OSX, every time this situation occurs, will ask the user, through a dialog box, if he accepts that this or that application makes use of the device's location data. Only the applications accepted by the user will be those that can make the location arrow appear in the menu bar.

LOCATION BAR

Still, let's see how to find out exactly which applications are using location data, as well as how to change and control which applications can use our Mac's location.

To access the location services of your Mac, you must enter System preferences and inside there in Security and privacy. The last upper tab is the one corresponding to Privacy . Within it, in the left sidebar we can select "Location" and in the window on the right we see the applications that have requested permission to access the location and through a "verified" those that are active by the user for it.

PRIVACY PREFERENCES

It should be noted that once you are using any of the applications that make use of the location, you will see that by clicking on the little arrow that appears, as we have already explained, a drop-down will appear in which you will be able to press to open the privacy preferences panel directly.
