The people of iFixit do not rest for a moment and they are in sight. If recently we were talking about how disassembled the new 13 ″ Macbook Air showing us a larger capacity battery, a smaller SSD but much faster when connected to the PCI Express Bus and a completely renewed Wi-Fi chip to accommodate the 802.11ac protocol, now it is the turn of the new Airport Extreme.

As with the current generation of Airport Extreme, the beginning to "gut" the new version begins at the bottom, where with a flat tool we can lift the lid to access the interior. The truth is that the more I see the internal layout and external appearance of the new apple router, the more surprised I am, Apple is unrivaled in design, for better or worse.

As soon as we uncover the device, we see that there is a plate that hides the connections and a power outlet to supply power to the router. As it is being dismantled, it can be seen how Apple has updated the number of antennas from the three that the previous generation had to the six antennas that the current one has, so the coverage is supposed to improve in addition to supporting the new 802.11ac standard.

A hole for an empty 3,5 ″ hard disk has also been discovered since it shares a design with Time Capsule, however we will not be able to connect any disk since there is no SATA connector for this purpose, the design has simply been used for both. The final repairability score would be an 8 out of 10 possible pointsSince most of the disassembly is done by unscrewing the different parts and the use of glue is almost non-existent, the only thing that they mention as a negative would be the great fragility of the connectors and their difficult access.

The truth is that, aesthetically, I liked the previous model better, however, the current model is probably more practical. If the Time Capsule is the same, then surely it is, I would buy it anyway ... I've been interested in the Time Capsule for years but I've always settled for a Western Digital with Firewire that meets my May 2008 iMac.
