Movistar follows the tail in the Netflix speed ranking

We are delighted with our Apple TV and with the operation of Netflix However, this not only depends on this content provider or the device from which we access, but also on the provider that gives us internet access.

Euskaltel, the best operator for Netflix

Since the arrival of Netflix to Spain on December 20, 2015, Movistar ranks the bottom line in the ISP speed index that it carries out, far behind its competitors.

In all the countries where it operates, 190, Netflix publishes this classification that updates on a monthly basis and according to which, we can get an idea of which internet provider we can enjoy the content much better with. The company has never explained the reasons why it publishes this data, but it is evident: to expose those operators guilty that Netflix It does not work as well as it should, either due to saturation or simple passivity of the operator, something that, considering that Movistar is the owner of Yomvi, makes us suspicious.

Currently, this is the classification in which it is surprising that "the greats" are last:

To perform this classification, Netflix takes the average bit rate in Mbps of all the streams that occur in each of the operators during prime time, that is, at peak times where the vast majority of users connect. This is the speed at which the films, series and documentaries Netflix, not a speed test to use that measures the capacity of our internet connection. The company explains it much better than me:

The ISP Speed Index for Netflix includes the average prime time bitrate of content streamed to service members during a given month. To obtain prime time, we calculate the average bit rate of Netflix content in megabits per second (Mbps) that is streamed to members by the Internet Service Provider (ISP). We measure speed across all available end-user devices. For a small group of devices, we cannot calculate exact bit rates, and transmission over cellular networks is exempt from our metrics. The speed of this index is not a measure of the maximum performance or the maximum capacity of an Internet service provider.

But if instead of observing the previous table, we look at the following graph, then we do visually check how far Movistar is from providing a service of the quality that other "small but large" operators do:

It seems that the criticism that Movistar has received for the malfunction of streaming seem more than justified, and would explain the weak results of Netflix in this operator.

Personally, I have a 100 MB fiber optic connection from a small company that operates in Andalusia, at a price that is really difficult to improve, and together with my Apple TV squeeze Netflix everything my time allows me. So, let's hope that Movistar gets the hang of it, although it seems difficult.
