Pixelmator Pro is one of those programs for our Mac that any amateur photographer should try sometime. It is undoubtedly the best alternative to the all-powerful Photoshop or the fighting Lightroom. Pixelmator Pro 1.5, dubbed Avalon, adds full support for macOS Catalina, the new Mac Pro, and Pro Display XDR. It offers intelligent denoising with machine learning technology, great performance improvements and much more.
The novelties are many, they reach almost all the options that a photographer needs when editing their images:
- The speed of the program has been improved. Zooming and scrolling are now at least 10 times faster thanks to asynchronous rendering. Effects will be applied and rendered up to 3 times faster, and all painting tools (including brush-based retouching tools) are now up to 2 times faster.
- Names have been changed to be more attractive to the user and above all more intuitive.
- Performance improvements and bug fixes that make the program more stable.
But above all, the most important thing is that the new update for macOS Catalina, is fully compatible with Sidecar functionality (learn what this functionality consists of) and Apple Pencil. Without neglecting the possibility of importing SF symbols.
But before we comment on how Pixelmator Pro works with Sidecar, let us tell you that the program will take advantage of the full power of the Mac Pro. It enables new RAW workflows designed with pro Display XDR in mind and because it supports multiple GPUs and an optimized Metal architecture.
Without doing anything us to configure the program, Sidecar will allow users to draw in the application using the Apple Pencil, and everything we do on the iPad will be reflected on the screen of our Mac. And yes, the sensitivity to the pressure of the pencil will also recognize it.
