The Mac continues to gain market share compared to the PC

Mac-PC Sales-April 2016-0

The PC sales market is in the doldrums and according to the data obtained from the IDC consultancy, there is currently an 11,5% decrease in sales compared to the previous year in relation to global PC shipments in the first quarter of 2016. However Apple has gained market share, it is estimated that total PC shipments were 60,6 million during the first quarter of this year.

PC shipments in one of the major markets, the United States, fell 5,8% leaving 13,6 million units in this first quarter. These problems with the number of units shipped may be due to a greater concern about the global economic situation, that some computers that are being sold do not include a free update to Windows 10 or directly that users request their own assembly equipment without resorting to well-known brands.

According to IDC Research Director Linn Huang:

The demand for PCs in the US is still slow, but on the other hand we are in a period of transition. During the year there are sales peaks thanks to the corporate purchases of the companies and also to the education sector that are usually given during the second quarter. There are even some buyers who are still considering the transition or migration to Windows 10 in addition to the potential staggered rise of ChromeBooks in primary and secondary education, so we should not be alarmist.

Regarding the global data collected we can see how Dell has achieved an increase of 4,2% with a global market share of 14,9% above ASUS and other well-known companies, however HP has fallen in sales although it maintains the second place behind Lenovo. For its part, Apple goes up to 4th place in the table with a 7,4% share very similar to that of ASUS worldwide, although this rise has been mainly thanks to the sales of its equipment in North America, we will see if it can be maintained or improved throughout the year.
