You do not need knowledge of electronics. Y much less will you need to disassemble your MacBook. The "hack" or invention that we present to you only requires some creativity; specific software and hope it works. Also, best of all, it will cost you less than one euro.
Currently, the closest we have had an Apple computer with a touch screen - at least officially - is the TouchBar that we can find in the latest MacBook Pro models. Apple has always maintained that touchscreens are only suitable for mobile phones and tablets. However, with the current macOS interface it would be difficult to have a pleasant user experience. Although if everything rolls as is being speculated and the iOS applications work under Mac computers, perhaps things will change. But let's see what the following invention has consisted of and this curious MacBook with touch screen.
So far we have seen solutions like air bar that can be attached to the MacBook Air. But its price goes up to $ 99. Nevertheless, with this method we will save a lot of euros. Mind you, don't expect exceptional screen response, it's functional nonetheless. What you will need are the following items:
- Single door hinge
- Hot glue
- A small mirror
- A hard plastic base
With all this mounted on the chassis of our Mac laptop we will fool the computer's webcam. That is, we will make the camera focus to the bottom and stop focusing on us. Then, we would need the called ShinyTouch developed by Kevin Kwok. It would map our gestures on the screen and manage them as inputs; that is, it is able to distinguish when we pass our finger over the screen and when we touch it. That is to say, is able to see when the user touches the screen thanks to its reflection.
This invention has been carried out by a student of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and other collaborators. In addition, this project has been baptized with the name of "Project Sistine".
