This week I have been immersed in a problem that a friend has had. His hard drive was failing and he couldn't access the data on it to retrieve it and keep it safe.
Faced with such a situation, Apple has provided us with a great utility called "Disk Utility" that allows us to analyze and repair discs when they start to have problems.
Now, there are disks that get such a breakdown that when the disk utility tries to "mount" it, they crash automatically, preventing it from being able to analyze and fix it. And this is the case in which I have found myself, a disc that when I tried to mount it would crash and it would not let me do "ANY".
After some time researching the net, I have been able to find a solution, which I think I should share with you. The solution I have found from llama "Disk Arbitrator". It is an application that will allow us to manage hard drives very efficiently to be able to circumvent the aforementioned failure.
It is a totally free utility that is compatible with all OSX systems. In order to use it, the steps to follow are:
- Download the utility from the following link DiskArbitrator.
- Then we open the utility and check the box "Activated - Block Mounts". In this way we are going to prevent the hard disk from mounting on the desktop and consequently the disk repair programs from automatically crashing, so now these programs can access the disk.
- We connect the damaged disk.
- Finally, we deactivate the “Activated -Block Mounts” box again.
In the case in which I was immersed, this was the solution that allowed me to recover the data from the disk. If something similar has happened to you and you have solved it in another way, if you feel like it, share your experience with the readers.
