The web version of Apple Pay is already the 5th form of online payment

Only a little over a month has passed since Apple launched its version of Apple Pay for web pages in order for this payment system to be compatible with all purchases that users make through the company's Safari browser both in Mac computers as well as iOS devices. And in this short period of time Apple Pay on the web has managed to position itself in the fifth place of the main online payment technologies.

The SimilarTech company has taken advantage of the fact that its platform tracks more than 30 billion web pages each month to show that Apple Pay is already the 10.000th most popular payment platform used by the top XNUMX websites.

Apple Pay on the web: "a meteoric rise in an incredibly difficult category"

Since the version for web pages of Apple Pay was launched last September coinciding with the arrival of iOS 10 and macOS Sierra, Apple Pay is now available on 0,25 percent of websites, although it still has a long way to go to overcome the hegemony of PayPal, present on 2,36% of the websites.

According to the data made public by the firm SimilarTech, Apple Pay on the web already leads other services, including Google Wallet, Amazon Payments, and more than 50 other online payment technologies.. This data refers to the 10.000 most visited websites by LinkedIn, so it is not absolute data.

If we go up the scale to see where Apple Pay is on the web, we will see that the payment service of the Cupertino company manages to maintain this fifth position, being present in 0,11% of the 100 thousand most important websites.

Despite what seem like good figures, we must also bear in mind that the service has barely been launched and therefore, it is normal that its presence is still much less than in the case of competing services that have already been around for years operating on the web.

Today, Apple Pay is only available on a total of 1.035 websites while PayPal PayPal is more than a million, Stripe in more than 38.000, Google Wallet in more than 13.000 and Amazon Payments in more than 8.500.

Despite this, the data reveals that, given its presence within the 10.000 mole in less than two months after its launch, Apple may soon overtake competitors and threaten PayPal's market supremacy so far.

Daniel Buchuk, SimilarTech's chief marketing officer, has referred to the success of Apple Pay on the web in recent months as "A meteoric rise in an incredibly difficult category", pointing out that other competing services such as Stripe, Amazon, Google and Braintree have taken years to consolidate their positions, now threatened by the irruption of the apple payment service.

Earlier this week, Apple launched a new promotion for Apple Pay on the web offering commissions to a growing list of retailers.

On the other hand, there are those who consider that the service could also see a big boost from the moment new MacBook Pro models start shipping to their buyers. Remember that the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar also integrates a fingerprint reader or Touch ID to use Apple Pay on the web without having to use an iPhone or an Apple Watch to verify payments.

It is the first computer of the company to include the fingerprint sensor and its arrival at the first owners is scheduled for the next few weeks, around the end of November.

If we add to this that Apple expects a strong MacBook Pro sales increase in 2017, Apple Pay's success on the web could almost be assured.
